legionellaconference.org2019 Legionella Conference Website

Overview
There is a growing concern over Legionella outbreaks. The Legionella Conference brings together professionals from a wide variety of industries, including health care, to discuss the issue and share their knowledge. The conference website needed to meet the needs of attendees and sponsors.
Problem statement: How can we make it easy for visitors to digest complex information such as the agenda and sponsorship information?

High-fidelity Mockups, Final Website
Role / Challenges
I was asked to design a conference website that closely matched branding efforts on other platforms and allowed for customization. I was responsible for determining the overall design direction for the website, coding the front-end and making usability decisions. I worked closely with our marketing team and business stakeholders.
This project was a fun challenge as we were asked to add content pages and functionality as the site developed over a period of several months. We launched areas of this site in stages so I created iterative mockups as needs arose before we implemented new pieces.

Solutions
Final Conference Agenda (Day 2 with tracks)
The agenda came to me in a very complex Excel document. I worked with the conference team to simplify the information and to find an effective way to present the large amount of content to users. Day two of the conference was track based, with multiple rooms running different sessions at the same time and changing themes, presenting a unique challenge. I color-coded each room’s agenda for the day and set up each track table to be collapsible so users could quickly get to the agenda with the track they were most interested in attending with less scrolling.
Sponsorship Benefit Mockups
When it came to showcasing the sponsorship opportunities and benefits for the conference I provided the team with a couple different approaches. The first option allowed the higher level opportunities to appear more prominent, the second made it easier for users to compare each type of sponsorship and its benefits. We ultimately went with the comparison table approach so users could easily compare the difference between benefit levels. I researched and implemented a creative way to break up the comparison into multiple tables for our mobile users to have an easier experience on smaller devices.
Results
I presented complex information in a way that resulted in strong positive feedback. Our marketing team received numerous comments during the conference from attendees and sponsors about how user-friendly the website was. We had a total of over 20,000 visitors to the site who spent over two minutes visiting on average. The conference, only in its second year when this site was built, drew 360 attendees and over 20 sponsors along with over 60 industry-speakers from around the world.
